Snowy Days

Winter is upon us and Buffalo is living up to its name this year. Honora has been outside playing in the snow every chance we get. We have a sled that serves as our snow stroller and gets us to the library, market, and other neighborhood outlets. Jay and I both have sore snow-shoveling muscles, but we cannot compain since it is a good way to get exercise in the winter.

Thanksgiving was a lot of fun. Grammy and Pop Corso came up for a pre-holiday visit. We cooked a lot and visited the opening of the Burchfield Penney Art Museum. Unfortunately, I have not been taking a lot of pictures lately and didn’t get any from their visit. We will have to get better at getting the camera out more. Then, Grandmom Carmen, Aunt Stephanie, Uncle Tommy and Uncle Greg came up for a fun Thanksgiving weekend. The highlight was our trip down to Sprague Brook Park, about 1/2 hour south of us, located in the heart of the “snow belt.” Before Buffalo saw much snow, the hills down there were covered. We all had fun sledding except for Honora. She did not like to see people falling off their sleds (and by people I mean me since I am not very coordinated). Since that trip we have taken her around the block on the sled quite a few times and she loves it again. Then my dad (Grandpop Cuddy) came to visit and we had a lot of fun singing Christmas carols while he played piano, cooking, and playing outside. My dad also took advantage of the Buffalo snow by going cross country skiing many times.

The mountains are less than an hour away so if anyone wants to plan a ski weekend and stay at our house, let us know! We would love to see you! To entice you some more, here are some travel articles about skiing, art and architecture Buffalo.

Happy Holidays to everyone! It’s fun to see Honora so excited about the lights, decorations, and Christmas songs. Her favorites are Jingle Bells and O Christmas Tree. It really helps me to see and feel the magic of the season (the snow helps too!).

Summer vacations, Family visits, Apple Picking and more…

Fall is here and it is absolutely beautiful. We are watching the leaves fall from a tree in front of our house and having fun listening to the crackle underneath our feet on walks. Honora loves being outside, rain or shine. Every morning she says “outside front door” (going out the back door sometimes means that we stay in our backyard and she prefers the freedom of walking the neighborhood). She looks for her shoes and most mornings will not even eat breakfast until she has been exploring, climbing, and running for a good hour or two. Given her love for the outdoors I have been doing some research and online shopping for winter weather clothing for both of us because I am sure we will get our use out of it this year.

The house is coming along. Most of the boxes are unpacked and the rest are out of sight. Each time we have visitors, we seem to get a lot of little projects completed.  Thanks (you know who you are)!!! We had the chimney swept and Jay has our first fire of the year going.

Here’s a quick rundown of what Honora is up to. She is 19.5 months and was 28 pounds and 34 inches (almost 3 feet!!!) at our last doctor’s appointment. She is singing songs: happy birthday, rock-a-bye baby, and twinkle twinkle. She adores baby dolls and real babies too. We are anxiously awaiting Baby Ben’s visit in two weeks. Honora loves playing with just about everything, especially the pretend kitchen, blocks, trains, and National Geographic (always in search of monkeys). We are very lucky to have our dear friend Cameron looking after Honora two mornings each week while I work a little. She loves her friends Paige and Asher and barely looks back as she heads out the door with Daddy to go visit them. On Fridays we go to a parent-toddler class run by the local Waldorf school. We make crafts, sing songs, play, eat, and enjoy the company of the other parents and kids.

The photo albums below should catch you up on the second half of summer and the beginning of fall. Enjoy!

Summer Fun

Honora is having a blast this summer. She loves her slide, sandbox, balls, sprinkler, bike and our neighbor’s pool. We are definitely getting our workout playing with her and watching her. She is quite the fearless explorer these days. Grandmom Carmen and Uncle Tommy are here this weekend. More pictures from their visit will be here soon.

Stephanie’s Graduation!

Sorry for the delay…check out the spring pictures here. My sister Stephanie graduated from Rowan University with a BA in elementary education. We had a great time visiting her and Doug and seeing lots of family and friends. I know we missed some relatives and friends and I’m so sorry. I wish we had more time.

Honora is 16 months now. She is starting to talk and eat a lot more. This week she is loving seeds, raisins, and steamed green leafy veggies…is this a dream?!? Haha, she ate so little for so long that I am thrilled to see her trying and liking lots of new healthy things.

Lots of changes…

Our nephew (Honora’s cousin) Benjamin was born on March 29. We visited him on Long Island for a week. Although Honora and Benjamin were about the same size when they were born, I have no recollection of Honora being so little. I guess Honora has us so busy that it’s easy to focus on where she is now and not on how much she has changed. Benjamin is adorable and a very happy little one. These pics are from his first week and he is already so much bigger.

We spent the last couple of weeks moving and settling in to our new house. We love the neighborhood and the house, but unpacking and getting settled is certain to take us a long time. We just bought a guest bed though, so come visit! One warning…if you come in the next 6 months or year, plan on helping out a bit! We don’t have many pictures of our own because the camera was packed away. Here’s a sneak peak…you’ll have to come up to see the rest.

Sledding and Family Fun

Our biggest snow of the year came in mid March when Honora’s Grandmom and Uncle Tommy & Mike, Katie & Leena visited. We took Honora for a sled ride on the sidewalk. After a brief training session, we headed to the big hill! Honora did not want to be out of the sled the entire time (despite the bright red cheeks and and serious looks on her face you’ll see in the pictures). We had a lot of fun while they visited, had more birthday cake (see the cute rocking horse cake Grandmom made Honora), and Jay was especially thankful for all of the shoveling and roof-raking help.

Happy 1st Birthday Honora!

1 Year!

It’s hard to believe Honora is leaving babyhood and entering toddlerhood. She started walking just before her first birthday. Grammy and Pop came to visit this week and we had fun at Explore & More for Honora’s birthday. Our small birthday party got even smaller due to friends getting sick. With a February birthday, I imagine this will happen most years…either that or a blizzard! Anne and Liam came from Rochester. Our friends Alanna, Chris, and their son Dominic also came to celebrate.

See the party pictures and pictures from Grammy and Pop Corso’s visit here. There are a lot of pictures, so click on “next” after viewing the first page.

Fun with Grandpop Cuddy

Ahhhh….spring! Well not exactly, but it felt like it when we visited the Botanical Gardens in South Buffalo. It was at least 70° and the flowers and plants looked so vibrant. It was a nice change from the cold, wet, and gray that defines Buffalo in the winter.

Honora had fun exploring the piano and tamborine that Grandpop brought. She has also been balancing herself without holding onto anything and has taken 1 step about once a day for the last few days. It’s hard to believe we are coming up on her first birthday already.

Here are some more pictures for Grandpop’s visit.
